Paris is home to numerous stores and markets selling everything from food to fine arts and antiques to high fashion. Among the most prestigious department stores in the city are the 10-storey Galeries Lafayette, Le Bon Marche and Au Printemps.

Paris Shops: Where to Shop in Paris

Avenue Montaigne is home to the biggest names in fashion, while other designer boutiques can be found along rue du Faubourg St. Honoré and in the Marais area. Good buys in Paris include fashion, jewellery, wines and cheeses.

As a visitor, you'll be obliged to buy something on the Champs-Elysées and stop for an hugely overpriced cup of coffee, but if you're looking for some of the finest fashions in Europe you'll find everything represented on the Avenue Montaigne nearby.

Place Vendôme is known as one of the jewellery centres of Europe and the shops here are very exclusive and expensive, but worth the trip, if only to admire the prices! Rue Royale, near Place de la Concorde, is equally upmarket and famous.

France is also all about food and the best place to sample its finest traditional wares and unique produce, as well as imported delicacies, is Fauchon on the Place de la Madeleine.
